PRESS RELEASE

Anabel Mendoza Receives ‘Girl, I Guess’ Progressive Voter Guide Endorsement

“My progressive pick is Anabel Mendoza. The youngest candidate in the race, and the one actually doing the work.”

CHICAGO — Today, progressive voter guide Girl, I Guess (GIG) announced its endorsement of Anabel Mendoza in Illinois’ 7th Congressional District. In their endorsement, the GIG voter guide called Anabel their “progressive pick,” and highlighted Anabel’s commitment to doing the hard work of earning each and every vote from the people of this district.

In their endorsement, the Girl, I Guess progressive voter guide writes, in part:

  • “My progressive pick is Anabel Mendoza. The youngest candidate in the race, and the one actually doing the work…she understands that hardship isn’t a personal failure, it’s the result of systemic neglect by a government that refuses to prioritize livable wages, robust education, and affordable housing.

  • “This ballot is chaotic. Overcrowded. Ego-forward. And full of people who want power far more than they’ve demonstrated accountability to the people who live here. That’s exactly why my pick is Anabel Mendoza.”

  • “Anabel is the only candidate consistently showing up as if this seat must be earned. She understands that representation isn’t about seniority, name recognition, or who can raise the most money from PACs with blood on their hands. It’s about alignment, courage, and proximity to struggle.”

  • “Progressive Chicagoans deserve candidates who earn their seat. [Anabel Mendoza is] doing exactly that.”

Anabel Mendoza, a lifelong Chicagoan and immigrant rights organizer, released the following statement in response to the endorsement:

“I’m incredibly proud to earn this endorsement and to be recognized as the true progressive candidate in this race,” said Anabel Mendoza. “I’m running for Congress because our communities have been ignored, exploited, and left behind for far too long. From day one, this campaign has been about the people who call our district home — fighting to make life affordable, standing up to the deadly violence against immigrant communities, and refusing to stay silent in the face of the genocide in Gaza. This campaign is unapologetic, people-powered, and rooted in the belief that our leaders must have the courage to tell the truth and fight back.”
