PRESS RELEASE

Congressional Candidate Anabel Calls Out House Republicans for Making Health Care More Expensive

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tuesday, December 16, 2025

“It is unconscionable that politicians in Washington continue to prioritize the needs of their rich donors over everyday people.”

Chicago — Today, Speaker Mike Johnson refused to bring to a vote a bill to lower health care costs by extending tax credits under the Affordable Care Act. This will impact over 22,000 residents in IL-07 who are currently enrolled in health care through the ACA Marketplace. Anabel Mendoza, a lifelong Chicagoan, immigrant rights organizer, and the youngest candidate running for Illinois’ 7th Congressional District, released the following statement:

“Health care costs are about to skyrocket for millions across the country — including tens of thousands of people in Chicago’s South and West sides — because of Republicans' failure. At a time when working people are already being crushed by rising rent, gas, and groceries, House Republicans are piling on, forcing people to pay even more just to see a doctor or fill a prescription.

“It is unconscionable that politicians in Washington continue to prioritize the needs of their rich donors over those of everyday people. Families in this district deserve relief, not reckless policies that make health care a luxury only the wealthy can afford. In Congress, I will prioritize fighting to lower health care costs for working people because no one should have to choose between putting food on the table and going to the doctor.”
